After passing the dog aggression test, all dog/handler teams have the option of attaining a BT (Behavior/Temperament Test ) or a BTX ( click BTX in the main drop down menu for more information) as their pathway into AS titles and independent certifications.

Part 1:

The BT is a two part test. Part 1 is the behavioral portion which includes an obedience test. This part will test the dog’s behavior, temperament and soundness in basic obedience with control led routines. This test includes a sound sensitivity test (gun shots)

Part 1 of the BT, is judged on a 45 point “Pass Fail” scale.

Part 2:

This part of the BT, is an evaluation of the dog’s character, temperament and environmental soundness. This is the temperament portion that includes six environment evaluations.

Should the dog fail any or even all of these environment evaluations, the dog/handler team will still be permitted to advance forward and try for future AS titles and independent certifications. However, to assist breeders, the outcome of all six environment evaluations will be recorded in the dog’s scorebook and cannot be repeated.

Environment Evaluations:

  1. Footing/Slippery Surface
  2. Movement in Tight Spaces
  3. Standing on an Unstable Surface
  4. Climbing
  5. Hunt Drive
  6. Suspicion and Recovery
